competition for a place in reality

now i have something a bit serious i need your opinions about.
i received a message in facebook from a lovely girl whose having problems finding a job as a clerk. she said that there are companies looking for malay ladies who preferably, are not wearing scarves.

i don't know what to make of this, and i don't know how many companies we're talking about. but the fact that there are companies who have preference such as "chinese female only" or "malay female but don't wear tudung pleaseeee" or something like that, makes it seem like there's sooo many limitation to get a job nowadays.

lagi lagi when the college and university intakes are only in September. isn't it going to be more competitive to get a job? when every student are on holiday at the same time, and enters college/uni at the same time. even entering college/uni will be more competitive!

if there are such preferences (as i mentioned earlier), then chances are slimmer! to land a clerk's job pun you have to satisfy the 'appearance' criteria, then how?
if the person have qualifications and the qualities to work, then why should appearance matter? whether the person wear scarf or not, if she/he can perform at their job, isn't that good?

a successful company should have brains to support it, not looks.

so what do you think?
i admit, i was not aware of this because alhamdulillah in my experience of applying for jobs, i didn't encounter such..ummm.. what is it ek? prejudice?

teehee!! so be reminded that this was in 2009, back when i was still studying and was still eating karipap while walking to classes. ok i miss karipap.

Hijab Fashion Week Season 2!

if you didn't know and never heard of HFW (Hijab Fashion Week), then allow me to elaborate!!

last year in November, a group of girls from all over the world have gathered in this event and for a week, we posted our pictures presenting what we wore, as per theme.

last year, we started off with HFW 1 : Work Wear
then HFW 2 : Celebrate Good Times!
HFW 3 : Girls Day Out
HFW 4 : Vacation!
HFW 5 : Weekend Wear
HFW 6 : Date with Someone Special
HFW 7 : The Cup Of Life

so basically the 30 of us girls just share our different styles and show off our creativity, not just for each other, but to others reading our blogs as well!
since i've just started wearing Hijab last year, being part of this event really showed me how to mix and match my clothes yet still remain as modest as i could and being comfortable.
and i have Em, from Modesty Theory to thank for! she is the organiser of this event!

last year she hosted this through her blog. i don't know how she managed it, considering we're all from different time zones, but well, GIRL POWER! she was very driven!
and now she's actually creating a blog specifically dedicated for HFW! the blog will be up on 14th February! woohoo!!
so all you excited people who wants to join this event, you could ask her =)

this event is a lovely way to connect with other Hijabies from ALL OVER THE WORLD! you imagine how massive this is?

hehehe.. tiba tiba excited. but yeah! once it started, it's really fun!

Lontong + PMS

i wrote about my parents long time ago, on how they like to make up their own lyrics to songs on the radio (coz they're cool that way). and now i just realised, i am just like them too!

know the song What's My Name by Rihanna?

there's a part in the song where the lyric went
"hey boy i wanna see if you can go downtown with a girl like me"

well, the first thing i heard was
"hey boy i wanna see if you can go lontong with a girl like me"

i know lontong doesn't make sense!! but if you hear her properly, it does sound as if she was saying lontong!! kan kan kannnn?!? or am i the only one who thinks so?
demmmm..
and everytime i wanna sing that part, i'm reminded by my cute Tokmak who makes great lontong. i love you tokmak comel! =D

Scarflets

ok a lot of people have been asking about The Scarflets.
the Scarflets isn't a band, a club nor an organization.

we're just a group of girls who loves to be with each other. and we don't restrict ourselves to our members, we're open to those who sincerely wants to be friends with us!

yes, we're all bloggers,

but what made us stick together isn't because of age, fashion, blogarama or anything like that. it's really because we found that sisterly bond with each other =D

so yeah.

anyway, we've had a photoshoot the other day, courtesy of ChentaNana, Halmus Rihzan, Chal Siden, Muhd Jais and MNJ aka Babah.

i'm not a model or anything, so i was kinda nervous and excited at the same time about this photoshoot.
and boy, it turned out to be so much fun! the photographers were really chill to work with. 
i was singing here and there, kejap lagu Empire State of Mind, kejap lagu Like a G6, kejap lagu Whip my hair. we were jumping around la, usik usik sana sini, talking, laughing, omg, it was really fun!

Who is Maria the Scarflet?

Who am i?

i am just that girl you see eating alone at a cafe, that girl you see walking around here and there with her friends, that girl you see with her family, that girl you see laughing at something, that girl you see anywhere and everywhere.

i'm just like most of you.

i was taken aback at how many followers i've gained since.. since a while ago. i don't know how it happened but it did. 

i know it was because of my videos. 

but initially i never expected it to be liked by you, or her, or him, and i never in a million years thought someone like Yuna would've watched it! hehe! =B

i'm not famous and i won't admit it because i don't believe it. 

i never made this blog with the intention to get popularity or to get your attention. 

never.

popularity to me, is only temporary. 

living my life is more important than that.

i made it for myself. for me to remember the silly things that happened in my life for when i get older. for me to remember the 'me' that was, and the 'me' that is.

i continued making videos because i believe i can entertain but at the same time share the simple things in life that we often don't acknowledge. like how redundancy is something that occurs everyday, yet u look past it coz u couldn't find a word to describe it. like how u want to scream out loud that you're not a loser just because you're on your own in a shopping mall or wherever. like how you always lip sync to the songs on the radio and make a fool of yourself because you know and like the songs.

simple things like these, i want to address. why? because a lot of you can relate.

i don't want to be famous. 

i want to be relate-able.

when some darlings tell me i'm their role model, i only pray they take the best of me, not the worst.

in the end, i'm only human. i have my ups and downs, and i'm naturally imperfect. 

i'm not pretty like most bloggers are for you to gawk at. i'm not even worthy of being called a fashionista for you to get inspired from. i'm mediocre in every way! 

but yet here you are. here i am.
