Job searching made easy

assalamualaikum!

the other day, i met my uni friends and as usual, we would always talk about our lives and of course, WORK!
since we're all working at different places, we all have so many different stories! best gila kot dengar! hehe =p

anyway, i teringat the year i graduated from university, in 2010, it was (unfortunately) the year of the economic crisis. a lot of companies were releasing and firing people, so as a fresh graduate, i was worried that i wouldn't be able to get a job. mana tak nya, iolls have little experience and knowledge are only theoretical, memang rasa susah la nak compete with experienced workers! my friends had the same worry.

but alhamdulillah, in the end we all secured a job =D

rezeki from Allah swt for everyone is different, so all we can do is/was try our best and then tawakal.
=)

i mainly scouted for jobs in Star newspaper on saturdays. they have a huge section dedicated for job openings from small companies to really well known huge companies.
it's really reliable!
and on the front page is always some tips for job seekers!

so anyway, during the discussion, we were reliving the time when we had to buy newspapers and go online to apply jobs and sending out our resumes. nowadays it's different!
can just look for jobs online! no need to buy star newspaper just for the classified section (like what i used to do. ihik!)

when i heard this, in my mind immediately teringat Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother. kelakar gila!

kan? hahahaha! but this was back in 2010, so actually video resume or 'visume' is not something new! employers can make live video interview with potential candidates too which is really convenient. can just be interviewed at home where it's comfortable and those yang dari jauh, takyah susah susah travel for interview.

oh and mystarjob.com contains training services like workshops, talks by industry leaders, etc to help others gain knowledge and expand our capabilities. will try to go someday.. heeee =B

i was asked few times about how to look for jobs, so this is one easy way to find one.
my friends and i agreed that it's best to do what we love, so don't just look for ONE established company, look for jobs that you love regardless where or which company =)
in the end, we all wanna work for a long term, so might as well do something we love so that it doesn't feel like working. kannnn? heheee =)

as a conclusion, technology is really helping us live easier.
few years ago, people have to submit resumes by snail mail. have to make so many copies, buy loads of stamps, and then send manually to the post office or the company itself (to beat other snail-mailers haha!).
then it evolved to just sending resumes through email.
and now, not only resume, but you can be interviewed online too!!

true love

i went through so many obstacles..
i had to go through a broken lift, i had to swim, and finally..

i saw my arwah tok.

and i cried.
and he cried too.

i asked him "why tok.. why have you been gone for so long.."
he was sitting down, while i was kneeling next to him, holding his hands.
"i miss you tok.. tokwan pun.."
he just cried.. he reached out a hand and held my face and smiled.

and then i woke up from my sleep. with tears running down my face.

i miss him so much..

my arwah tok was an amazing guy.
he was in the police force, so he had discipline and he had this aura that made everyone respect him.
i remember when i was younger, he would take my brothers and i to subang parade to eat extravagantly at mcdonalds - masa tu mcd macam mahal, and then he would take us to toys r' us and let us have anything we want.
oh joy!
i always pick out the cheap stuff coz i segan nak take the expensive ones. i always take like polly pockets yang paling simple, sometimes soft toys and stickers. while my brothers, hmph! opportunists!
they would pick the expensive lego toys, and my youngest brother dapat the car for kids tu.
cis jealous betul tapi tanak beli mahal mahal.
takut tok tak mampu. redha je laaaaaaaaaa.
hehee..

arwah tok left us when i was form 2..
i cried so hard then.. because i remember how he would sacrifice for us.. he lived with my tokwan in shah alam, and he would just drive to wherever we were to help us and even send us to tuition classes when he was sick..
he died due to lung cancer..

it was so sad.
a few years after he left, my tokwan stayed with us. she has leg problems, so she cant climb stairs, sit too long, walk too far, and stand too long. and she loves gardening and cooking.. so her leg problems kind of stopping her from doing them. kesian dia..

haritu as i was making cucur kurma, i talked to her helper who was taking care of her. she told me that tokwan was crying.
"ha? nape lak kak?"

"sebab dia tengah rindu arwah tok. ena tau tak kadang kadang tokwan bangun tengah malam pastu nangis sebab dia rindu arwah tok. pastu dia cari gambar arwah tok pastu peluk peluk gambar tu.
kadang kadang dia ambik baju arwah tok yang tinggal satu tu pastu peluk baju tu.
kakak pun tak tau apa nak buat..
orang dah pergi, nak buat camane kan.."

menangis aku masa tgh siat siat si kurma tu.
ada gak hingus meleleh.
huhu..

but it was sad to hear.
tokwan loves tok very very much, everyone can tell. coz she has pictures of him in her room, in her house, and she would talk so passionately about arwah tok and about how they fell in love.

that is true love.

tokwan advised me "ena, bila kahwin, memang you will have problems. memang akan naik turun. but you have to face them together. don't tell people about your problems with your husband. you face it and you solve your problems with each other."

not too long ago, my tokwan wasn't feeling so well.
she almost gave up, until my mom talked to her and then the weekend when i came home, i went to see her.
she held my hand and said "ena, no matter what, i will be there at your wedding. i will! i must!"
and she said that with tears brimming in her eyes.
i pun apa lagi.
nangis la juga.

hehee.. i'm a very emotional girl, it's plain obvious.

i hardly tell stories about my grandma, tokwan.
because her stories are the kind that would make me cry. the things she does and had been doing since i was a child, are the kind of things i hope i will do when i have kids and grandkids and more.
she never stopped cooking even when it hurts her to, and she would cook anything we like, just because!
my tokwan is very very kind and has a very very gentle yet strong heart.
my tokwan is also a very funny person =)
i think my dad got it from her, and i got it from my dad. hehe =p

and so, when i learnt that she still shed tears for arwah tok, makes me wonder.. how it's like to loose the people you love in your life..
mesti rindu yang teramat..
i had 14 years of memories with my arwah tok pun i boleh rindu. what about her?
mesti la lagi rindu..

so cherish the people in your life. especially family because no one can replace them.
make memories with them so that when they leave this world, at least you know you've had fond memories with them.

Maria Masak - Cucur Kurma!

assalamualaikum and selamat hari raya!

masih bulan syawal kan?
heeeee..

do you have boxes of kurma at home sempena bulan ramadhan yang tertangguh makan sehingga kini?
you've been giving it out to your guests during raya but still, the number of kurma hasn't decreased?
do you hear whispers of "yusuf tayyub" everytime you see your kurma laying around?

instead of throwing it out, or leave it to rot sebab tanak buang makanan (konon tanak bazir pastu dok psycho diri "i will eat kurma bila i ganti puasa or puasa enam or puasa nazar dan sebagainya")...

MAKE CUCUR KURMA!

lopeh tu dengar la whispers "yusuf tayyub kurma~" haaa. sedap sikit dengar kan? ahahahahahahakkk =p

tadaaaa~~

but exactly how good is it? - you ask. 

well. pfft. it's really really good. and how do i know that? 

my housemates said so, my family said so and of course, coz i said so. ok la tu kan! hahaa!!

so let's begin!!

what you need?

1. KURMA - at least 10 biji 

2. 2 cups of tepung gandum

3. 1 teaspoon of baking soda

4. 2 spoons of sugar (atau secukup rasa. depends on your sugar level)

5. 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt (atau secukup rasa. depends on blood pressure. kalau tinggi takyah banyak. heeee)

6. about 2 cups of water (or more. or less)

7. 1 egg (optional)

*recipe sama je macam nak buat cucur bawang/kentang =)*

what now?

1. koyakkan the kurma into small bits, throw out the biji and the hard skin (if ada)

le kurma. i think i had about 15pieces here =)

2. take a bowl and mix your 2 cups of tepung gandum, baking soda, sugar and salt. add water little by little til you get a gooey mixture. you can add in the egg if you want more 'empuk' feel to the cucur (said my grandma).

3. put in your kurma koyak in the gooey mixture!

4. MIX AND MIX! weeeeeeeeeeeeee!! 

5. get a kuali with oil about 1/2 inch deep. i think you know how much oil you need.. heee =B get the oil heated up (with medium fire), then use a spoon to masukkan the gooey mix into the kuali. okaysss?

like zis!!

6. belek belek the cucur till dia jadi chris brown, then take it out and have fun repeating till your mix finito! ahak!!

this recipe was actually taught by my friend, Liyana, whom i've lost contact for quite some time.

i do miss her and let's all thank her for teaching me how to make the cucur kurma so that i can share it with you =)

Hey sexy monyet

1. i was chilling with abah and mama one night. then we came into talking about jovian mandagie. honestly, i never knew who or what it was until people made such fuss about the kurungs he's selling online and at first lady. ohhhh... rupanya dia big shot designer... oooohhhhh.. then abah said "yeahh. he's selling online whattt. kat tv dah kuar. kat flora.com". mama and i looked at each other. and i said "bah, i think it's zalora.com" ahak ahak ahak!!!!

2. tokmak's staying over at our house for a few days. so over breakfast haritu, we were talking about marriage. she said "bila berpacaran, kalau kau jatuh terlanggar batu, laki kau marah batu tu tau!! bila dah kahwin, laki kau marah kau sebab tak nampak batu tu!!" hahahah!! =p (sebenarnya warning, tapi lawak)

3. This whole week i will be in meetings with koreans and iranians. Yesterday, i couldnt help it, they were talking among themselves macam "ablende blende anyooo~" and "amnyam manyoo~" and "annniiii~ cekisah sanyooo~" apakah? Aku memang tak paham korean and aku dengar banyak 'oooo~" kat penghabisan ayat. secara tiba tiba, dalam otak termain lagu Oppa Gangnam Style. Ha. Camane tu. tgh tgh meeting ni terplay dlm kepala "heeeyyy, nenek molek! Heeeeyyy sexy monyet!" sambil joget mcm naik kuda. Amacam?
Dari stress, terus jadi nak gelak.
Dalam imagination yg agak gangsta ni, i imagined i nyanyi je lagu tu pastu diorg dari serious serious, tiba tiba joget gangnam!
